But Jehovah would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant He had made with David and since He had promised that He would provide a lamp for him and for his children always.

And a letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus says Jehovah, the God of David your father, Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father and in the ways of Asa the king of Judah

Jehoram received a letter from Elijah the prophet, which said: "This is what the Lord , the God of your father David, says: 'You have not walked in the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah.

乃是走以色列诸王的路，使犹大人和耶路撒冷的居民变节去服事别的神，像亚哈家使以色列人变了节一样；你并且杀死了你父亲家比你好的众兄弟；

וַתֵּ֗לֶךְ בְּדֶ֨רֶךְ֙ מַלְכֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַתַּזְנֶ֤ה אֶת־יְהוּדָה֙ וְאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם כְּהַזְנֹ֖ות בֵּ֣ית אַחְאָ֑בוְגַ֨ם אֶת־אַחֶ֧יךָ בֵית־אָבִ֛יךָ הַטֹּובִ֥ים מִמְּךָ֖ הָרָֽגְתָּ׃

But have walked in the way of the kings of Israel and caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit harlotries, as the house of Ahab committed harlotries, and also have slain your brothers, those of your father's house, who were better than you,

But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house, which were better than thyself:

But you have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and you have led Judah and the people of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves, just as the house of Ahab did. You have also murdered your own brothers, members of your father's house, men who were better than you.

Jehovah is now striking your people and your children and your wives and all your possessions with a great plague;

Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:

lo, Jehovah is smiting -- a great smiting -- among thy people, and among thy sons, and among thy wives, and among all thy goods --

So now the Lord is about to strike your people, your sons, your wives and everything that is yours, with a heavy blow.

And you yourself will be severely ill with a disease of your bowels, to the point that your bowels will come out day by day because of the illness.

And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of the Philistines and Arabians who are next to the Cushites against Jehoram.

And in the course of time, at the end of two years, his bowels came out because of the illness, and he died with severe illnesses. And his people did not make a burning for him, like the burning they had made for his fathers.
