And Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was set on Absalom.

Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom.

R  
So Joab sent word to Tekoa and had a wise woman brought from there. And he said to her, Pretend to be in mourning, and put on mourning garments, and do not anoint yourself with oil; but be like a woman who has mourned for the dead a long time.

And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

So Joab sent someone to Tekoa and had a wise woman brought from there. He said to her, "Pretend you are in mourning. Dress in mourning clothes, and don't use any cosmetic lotions. Act like a woman who has spent many days grieving for the dead.

And go to the king and speak with him in this way. And Joab put the words in her mouth.

And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

And when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground and paid him homage and said, Help, O king!

And the king said to her, What troubles you? And she said, Truly I am a widow, and my husband is dead.

And your servant had two sons. And the two struggled with each other in the field, and there was no one to part them. So the one struck down the other and killed him.

现在全家族的人都起来攻击你的婢女,说,你将那打死兄弟的交出来,我们好将他处死,偿他所打死兄弟的命;即使是承受家业的,我们也要灭绝。这样,他们要将我剩下的炭火灭尽,不给我丈夫留名留后在地上。

现在全家的人都起来攻击婢女,说:‘你将那打死兄弟的交出来,我们好治死他,偿他打死兄弟的命,灭绝那承受家业的。’这样,他们要将我剩下的炭火灭尽,不与我丈夫留名留后在世上。”

看哪!现在全家族的人都起来攻击婢女,说:‘你要把那击杀他兄弟的凶手交出来,好让我们把他处死,以偿他兄弟的命,也可以灭绝那继承产业的。’这样他们要使我所剩下的炭火也都熄灭了,不让我丈夫在这世上留下名字,或留下后代。”

全族的人都起来反对你的婢女说:将那打死自己兄弟的交出来,让我们杀了他,抵偿他所杀的兄弟的命,即使是后嗣,我们也要消灭。这样,他们连我所剩下的一星之火,也要熄灭,不让我的丈夫在世上留名,或者留后。”

你看,现在全家族都起来攻击你婢女,说:‘把那击杀他兄弟的交出来,我们好治死他,来偿他杀死兄弟的命;并且也可以除灭那继承家业的。”这一来、他们就要使我剩下的炭火都熄灭,而不给我丈夫留名或留余种在地上了。”

看哪,全家族的人都起来攻击你的婢女,说:‘把那打死他兄弟的交出来,我们好治死他,偿他所杀的他兄弟的命,我们连那承受家业的也要灭绝。’(这样,)他们要将所剩下的我的香火灭尽,不给我的丈夫…留名留后。”在地面上

וְהִנֵּה֩ קָ֨מָה כָֽל־הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֜ה עַל־שִׁפְחָתֶ֗ךָ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ תְּנִ֣י׀ אֶת־מַכֵּ֣ה אָחִ֗יו וּנְמִתֵ֨הוּ֙ בְּנֶ֤פֶשׁ אָחִיו֙אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָרָ֔ג וְנַשְׁמִ֖ידָה גַּ֣ם אֶת־הַיֹּורֵ֑שׁ וְכִבּ֗וּ אֶת־גַּֽחַלְתִּי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁאָ֔רָה לְבִלְתִּ֧י שֹׂום לְאִישִׁ֛י שֵׁ֥םוּשְׁאֵרִ֖ית עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ פ
R  
And now the whole family has risen up against your servant, and they say, Give over that one who struck down his brother that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he has slain, even if we destroy the heir also. Thus they will quench my coal which is left without leaving to my husband a name or a remainder on the face of the earth.

And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth.

And behold, the whole family is risen against thy bondmaid, and they say, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may put him to death, for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also: so they will quench my coal which is left, and will not leave to my husband a name or remnant on the earth.

and lo, the whole family hath risen against thy maid-servant, and say, Give up him who smiteth his brother, and we put him to death for the life of his brother whom he hath slain, and we destroy also the heir; and they have quenched my coal which is left -- so as not to set to my husband a name and remnant on the face of the ground.'

Now the whole clan has risen up against your servant; they say, 'Hand over the one who struck his brother down, so that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he killed; then we will get rid of the heir as well.' They would put out the only burning coal I have left, leaving my husband neither name nor descendant on the face of the earth."

Then the king said to the woman, Go to your house, and I will issue a command concerning you.

And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee.

And the king saith unto the woman, 'Go to thine house, and I give charge concerning thee.'

R  
And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, O my lord the king, the iniquity be upon me and upon the house of my father, and the king and his throne be guiltless.

And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: and the king and his throne be guiltless.

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ הַֽמְדַבֵּ֤ר אֵלַ֨יִךְ֙ וַֽהֲבֵאתֹ֣ו אֵלַ֔י וְלֹֽא־יֹסִ֥יף עֹ֖וד לָגַ֥עַת בָּֽךְ׃
R  
And the king said, If anyone says anything to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you anymore.

And the king said, Whosoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.

And the king said, Whoever speaks to thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.
Y  
And the king saith, 'He who speaketh aught unto thee, and thou hast brought him unto me, then he doth not add any more to come against thee.'
I  
The king replied, "If anyone says anything to you, bring him to me, and he will not bother you again."

妇人说,愿王记念耶和华你的神,不许报血仇的人施行杀灭,恐怕他们灭绝我的儿子。王说,我指着永活的耶和华起誓,你的儿子连一根头发也不至落在地上。
和 
妇人说:“愿王记念耶和华你的神,不许报血仇的人施行灭绝,恐怕他们灭绝我的儿子。”王说:“我指着永生的耶和华起誓,你的儿子,连一根头发也不至落在地上。”
新 
妇人说:“愿王记念耶和华你的神,不许报血仇的人多行杀戮,免得他们灭绝我的儿子。”王说:“我指着永活的耶和华起誓,你的儿子连一根头发也不会落在地上。”
思 
她继续说:“望大王提及上主你的天主的名,不许报血仇的人再从事破坏,不将我的儿子消灭。”他答说:“我指着永生的上主起誓:你儿子的一根头发,也决不会落在地上。”
吕 
妇人说:“愿王怀念着永恒主你的上帝,不许报血仇的多行杀灭,来除灭我儿子。”王说:“我指着永活的永恒主来起誓,你儿子连一根头发也不至于落地。”
直 
她说:“愿王记得雅威──你的神,不许报血仇的人多行灭绝,绝不让他们灭绝我的儿子。”他(指王)说:“只要雅威活着(起誓语),妳的儿子连一根头发也不会落在地上。”
原 
וַתֹּאמֶר֩ יִזְכָּר־נָ֨א הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ מֵהַרְבִית גֹּאֵ֤ל הַדָּם֙ לְשַׁחֵ֔ת וְלֹ֥א יַשְׁמִ֖ידוּאֶת־בְּנִ֑י וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ חַי־יְהוָ֔ה אִם־יִפֹּ֛ל מִשַּׂעֲרַ֥ת בְּנֵ֖ךְ אָֽרְצָה׃
R  
And she said, May the king remember Jehovah your God, so that the avenger of blood may kill no more and they destroy not my son. And he said, As Jehovah lives, not a hair from your son shall fall to the ground.
K  
Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.
D  
Then she said, I pray thee, let the king remember Jehovah thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they cut off my son. And he said, [As] Jehovah liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.
Y  
And she saith, 'Let, I pray thee, the king remember by Jehovah thy God, that the redeemer of blood add not to destroy, and they destroy not my son;' and he saith, 'Jehovah liveth; if there doth fall of the hair of thy son to the earth.'
I  
She said, "Then let the king invoke the Lord his God to prevent the avenger of blood from adding to the destruction, so that my son will not be destroyed." "As surely as the Lord lives," he said, "not one hair of your son's head will fall to the ground."

妇人说,请让婢女向我主我王说一句话。王说,你说吧。

妇人说:“求我主我王容婢女再说一句话。”王说:“你说吧!”

那妇人又说:“请允许婢女对我主我王再说一句话。”王说:“你说吧。”

妇人接着说:“望我主大王,许你的婢女再进一言!”他答说:“说吧!”

妇人说:“请容婢女对我主我王再说一句话”;王说:“你说吧。”
直 
那妇人说:“求王我的主容你婢女(再)讲一句话。”他说:“妳讲吧。”

וַתֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה תְּדַבֶּר־נָ֧א שִׁפְחָתְךָ֛ אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ דָּבָ֑ר וַיֹּ֖אמֶר דַּבֵּֽרִי׃ ס
R  
Then the woman said, Let your servant speak a word to my lord the king. And he said, Speak.

Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on.

And the woman said, Let thy bondmaid, I pray thee, speak a word to my lord the king. And he said, Speak.
Y  
And the woman saith, 'Let, I pray thee, thy maid-servant speak unto my lord the king a word;' and he saith, 'Speak.'

Then the woman said, "Let your servant speak a word to my lord the king." "Speak," he replied.

妇人说,王为何想出这样的事,要害神的民呢?王不使他所赶逐的那人回来,王说这话就不免有罪了。

妇人说:“王为何也起意要害神的民呢?王不使那逃亡的人回来,王的这话,就是自证己错了!

妇人说:“你为什么想出这样的事来陷害神的子民呢?王说了这话,如果不让自己逃亡的人回来,就是个有罪的人了。

妇人说:“为什么大王想出这样的事来,反对天主的百姓?君王说出这话,若不将自己放逐的人召回来,就不免有罪了!
吕 
妇人说:“王为什么也图谋了这样的事要害上帝的人民呢?因为王不使那被放逐的人回来;王说了这话,就似乎‘有了罪’了。
直 
那妇人说:“为何.你像这样想要害神的子民呢?…王说这句话就错了。王不让被他驱逐的人回来,

וַתֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה וְלָ֧מָּה חָשַׁ֛בְתָּה כָּזֹ֖את עַל־עַ֣ם אֱלֹהִ֑ים וּמִדַּבֵּ֨ר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ כְּאָשֵׁ֔םלְבִלְתִּ֛י הָשִׁ֥יב הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶֽת־נִדְּחֹֽו׃
